When the idea for the Newbies Guides to Finance came to Alan Northcott, it seemed to be a natural progression from the ten books he had written previously. He saw a need for guide books that did not assume any prior knowledge, yet would give the reader a sound knowledge of the topic.
The sales have proved that his impulse was right, and that there is a need for simple explanations of basic finance facts for many people who have not had the benefit of a financial education.
While it would be strange to call it a “mission”, Alan feels compelled to continue expanding the range of topics covered. Different people have varying interests and there are a vast array of money topics that need to be included.
With so many sides to the money topic, sometimes it is hard to know which ones to tackle next. If you have a particular requirement, just drop a line to Alan with your suggestions, and they will be incorporated as soon as possible.
Alan Northcott is a successful financial author, freelance writer, trading educator, professional engineer, karaoke jockey, and wedding officiant, along with other pursuits. He and his wife live in Florida, and they share their house with many dogs and cats. They have three children living on three different continents, and two grandchildren. He has the unusual claim of having married his own son (see above if you don’t understand).
Originating from England, Northcott was educated at Eltham College in London and obtained his degree from the University of Surrey, also in England. He immigrated with his wife to America in 1992. His engineering career spanned more than 30 years, on both sides of the Atlantic, and he has actively pursued his second career of writing since the mid-90s.
